# Metals-API – Full API Reference for LLMs

> Real-time and historical precious metals and currency JSON API: gold, silver, platinum, palladium, and more.

## Authentication

REST requires the query parameter `access_key` on every request:

MCP: do not put the key in the URL — Claude Desktop and claude.ai reject tokens in the query string. Pass `api_key` on every tool call. The worker maps `api_key` → REST `access_key`.

## 1. Supported Symbols

Retrieve the list of available metal and currency symbols.

## 2. Latest Rates

GET /api/latest

Real-time metal and currency rates. Update frequency depends on plan.

Query params: `access_key` (required), `base` (default USD), `symbols` (comma-separated).

## 3. Historical Rates
